Description

Silostop specialises in silage protection systems. Recognised as the global leader in oxygen barrier silage film technology, the range consists of:

  • Oxygen barrier sheets – thin (45-80 micron) impermeable films that prevent entry of oxygen into the silage
    • Silostop Orange oxygen barrier film
    • Silostop Black oxygen barrier film with anti-uv protection
    • Silostop Max oxygen barrier film with anti-uv protection – suitable for larger or exposed applications
  • Silostop Wall Film (125 micron) for total bunker protection
  • Close weave tarpaulins to protect the film. The woven structure allows wind to pass through rather than lifting the cover, and also helps to ensure the cover remains cool and does not heat the silage
  • Silostop Anti-UV Covers to protect the Orange film from sunlight and physical damage
  • Silostop Open Nets to protect the Black film from physical damage
  • Gravel bags to seal the edges and joins, preventing the film and tarpaulins blowing off the silage

Why use Silostop?

  • Standard silage sheets allow oxygen to pass through into the silage allowing surface waste to occur
  • Silostop film is an excellent barrier to oxygen. Surface waste can be eliminated and surface weight can be reduced

Usage

  • Sheet the clamp in the normal way ensuring a good seal
  • Lay the top sheet over the Silostop sheet as flat and taut as possible using Silostop gravel bags or sandbags around the sides and across the joins to hold it in place
  • In the first few weeks, as the silage settles, check the sheet regularly and pull tight as necessary
  • If there are any hollow places, weight them to ensure the sheeting remains in contact with the silage
  • On areas where the sheet cannot be kept tight, such as the ramp, more weight should be used
  • If the clamp is in a particularly exposed area, it is advisable to place extra rows of gravel bags or sandbags across the clamp
  • An overlap must be allowed between the sheets – 300mm is considered to be sufficient. This should then be firmly weighted along the join
  • When the sheet is ready to be stored it should be folded properly (as when it was received) and stored in a dark room free from rodents
  • Gravel Bags are available in packs of 50
