Description
Advanced Optistart 25, a new Energized Calf Milk (ECM) designed to revolutionise the way we feed calves. Specifically formulated to support the LifeStart objectives of optimal development; resilience to disease and longevity. LifeStart science illustrates the benefits to be gained from having higher energy levels and lower osmolality in milk replacers—reducing nutritional scours and helping to achieve their full lifetime potential of both yield and longevity. Advanced Optistart 25 has been designed with whole milk as the biological reference, mixing the best of whole milk with the best of Calf Milk Replacer (CMR).

Benefits & Usage
Benefits
- LifeStart accredited, meaning it’s part of the LifeStart programme, connecting world-leading nutritional expertise with practical on farm management advice.
- Specifically designed for high planes of early life nutrition – balanced mineral content.
- Reduced scouring risk due to lower lactose content. CMRs with elevated levels of osmolality can damage gut integrity, exacerbating diarrhoea in sick calves. Advanced Optistart 25 has an osmolality level closer to that of whole milk.
- Advanced Optistart 25 has been specifically formulated to ensure that the calf receives a balanced nutrient supply to ensure optimal development whilst supporting the health of the calf.
- Based on a combination of skim and whey
- Formulated to be close to natural milk, with 10% more metabolisable energy.
- If fed correctly will typically help increase milk production in first and subsequent lactations, potentially worth between £250-£320/cow/year.
Usage – Enhanced Performance
- Ensure calves receive 4 litres of clean, high quality colostrum within 4 hours of birth. This should be followed up by a further 2 litres within 12 hours of birth. Use of a colostrometer or Brix refractometer is recommended. Feed colostrum for 3 days before introduction to Optistart 25.
- Mix 150g of milk powder and top up to 1 litre with water, ensuring the final temperature is 38 – 40ᵒC
- At this inclusion rate, ensure mixing is thorough and calves have access to clean water and starter pellets.
- Feed ad-lib with a target of achieving a total intake of 7 litres/day ASAP – split over 2 feeds per day. Calves should be consuming full 7 litres as soon as possible, preferably by 7 – 10 days old.
- Ensure feeding equipment is cleaned and disinfected regularly.
- Contact Advance for more detailed feeding suggestions.
Storage
- Store below 25ᵒC in a dry area. Shelf life 12 months from date of manufacture.
